The artist has given the full amount of his £25k award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to preserve the UK's small concert spaces.

The star was presented with the award on mid-October as his third album his work was declared the best record of the past year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the crucial part grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, top acts like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

He also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money helped venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues arising from flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in large arenas supports the smaller venues, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

The musician is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

In the band received the prize in 1996 for their album their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the act would donate their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her bounty across multiple charities, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," the artist explained to outlets.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the community center that developed their act, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners the group contributed their award to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked vocalist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

Last week, the MVT announced it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and music fans who purchase "stakes" in the buildings.
