The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major prize-giving event nears, you'll find a clamor to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal remains most pressing above others. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Only a few logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
