19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six finals, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

He saved 4 early opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
